Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • ½ small yellow onion finely chopped
  • 4 cloves of garlic minced
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 (28 ounce) can of crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¼ tsp red pepper flakes

Instructions

  • In a medium skillet or saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and minced garlic and sauté for about 5 minutes, until fragrant and softened. Stir in the tomato paste and cook for 1 minute to deepen the flavor.
  • Add the crushed tomatoes, Italian seasoning, sugar, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes. Stir well to combine. Reduce heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened and flavorful.

Notes

Storage & Reheating

Let the marinara sauce cool completely before storing. Transfer to an airtight container or jar and refrigerate for up to 5 days. For longer storage, freeze in portions for up to 3 months—perfect for easy meal prep!
To reheat, warm the sauce gently in a saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally until heated through. If reheating from frozen, thaw overnight in the fridge first. You can also microwave in short intervals, stirring between each, until warm.
